TAA Meets with President Gül in New York

On Thursday, September 26, 2013, His Excellency the President of Turkey Abdullah Gül met with 30 leaders of TAA component organizations and other Turkish American organizations. They included Faruk Taban and Murat Akkus from TAA; Furkan Koşar, Murat Kaval, Zafer Akin, Celil Yaka and Nebi Demirsoy from the Council of Turkic American Associations; Mahmut Yeter from the Mid-Atlantic Federation of Turkic American Associations; and additional members from the Assembly of Turkish American Associations, the Federation of Turkish American Associations; the Turkish American Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and the Turkish Coalition of America.

At the meeting, which included Turkish Ambassador to the U.S. Namık Tan and Turkish Minister of Development Cevdet Yılmaz, President Gül commended the Turkish community in the United States for how well it has organized itself. Following a Q&A session, guests attended an art exhibition by Peyami Gürel entitled “Exist” at the Turkish Center, which is situated alongside United Nations buildings at 821 United Nations Plaza. Mr. Gürel’s exhibition will continue to be on display until October 20, 2013. Finally, a community reception was held at the Turkish Center and was attended by President Derviş Eroğlu of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, several Members of Turkish Parliament, Turkish journalists and dozens other Turkish community leaders from all over the U.S. President Gül welcomed the guests and praised their strong commitment and resolve for strengthening U.S.-Turkey ties.
