A delegation of over sixty members from the Turkish city of Trabzon attended a TAA welcoming dinner on Tuesday, December 11th 2012. Among the distinguished guests were Dr. Recep Kizilcik, Governor of Trabzon, Mr. Suat Hacisalihoglu, Executive Committee President of the Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Abdullah Koten, Senior Commercial Counselor of the Turkish Embassy, Mr. Emirhan Yorulmazlar Counselor of the Turkish Embassy, and other officials and media representatives.
Mr. Murat Akkus, the TAA’s Program Director welcomed the guests, introduced the Alliance and discussed its programs and role in the United States. Dr. Recep Kizilcik, the Governor of Trabzon talked about the importance of globalization and stated that in a globalized world states aim to build competitive and powerful regional structures as a way of ensuring their economic prosperity. Said Mr. Kizilcik, “It is a 21st century fact, that in our globalizing world in order to be more competitive, strong and prosperous it is necessary to form economic and regional blocks.” He expressed confidence that the delegation’s U.S. visit will help its business members establish new contacts and business connections. Mr. Kizilcik mentioned that he already missed Turkey and traditional Turkish cuisine and is therefore particularly thankful for the authentic Turkish food and the warm reception.
Mr. Suat Hacisalihoglu, Executive Committee President of the Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and Industry emphasized how vital the organizations like the TAA are for the Turkish business community. According to Mr. Hacisalihoglu, the TAA and its member organizations provide a bridge connecting Turkish and American businessmen, and leading to important new business opportunities. He further discussed the need for young people in Turkey to learn English, and introduced Mr. Necmi Mutlu as one of the people who can direct and advocate this process.
