Raindrop organizes Panel on Women’s Influence in Non-Profits

February 12, 2015, Houston, Texas. Raindrop Women’s Association (RAWA) Houston and University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) held a panel on Women’s Influence in Non-Profits. A panel was consisted of all female speakers and more than 140 participants attended the event.

The program started with a dinner during which keynote speakers David Flores, President of UHD, and Filiz Camuz, Executive Director of RAWA Houston delivered a speech. Both speakers highlighted an important role women hold these days in a male dominated society. Later the program was followed by a panel discussion that was moderated by Ronnie Hagerty, Assistant VP of United Way of Greater Houston. Speakers of the event were Dorothy Gibbons, CEO of a non-profit breast cancer organization The Rose, Alecia Lawyer, Founder of River Oaks Chamber Orchestra, and Susan Meinholz, Board President of FamilyTime Crisis and Counseling Center.

 
During the panel discussion speakers touched upon the topics such as what are the struggles and ways for women to reach out to donors for Non-for-Profits, gender roles in society, as well as personal stories of why the speakers chose Non-Profits career. The panel was followed by Q&A session afterwards. As one of the participants concluded the panel was a priceless experience.
Towards the end of the program Naomi Ostfeld, RAWA Houston advisory board member, presented a custom made necklace to each speaker. The whole night was accompanied by Alice Lawyer’s musical performance.
