Parliament of World’s Religions in Salt Lake City

October 19, 2015, Salt Lake City, Utah. Pacifica Institute organized a panel discussion during the 6th Parliament of World Religion held at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Utah. The premier event, held October 15-19, attracted over 10,000 people attended from over 80 countries and 50 faiths.This year’s theme titled, “Reclaiming the Heart of Our Humanity Bring Global Wisdom and Practice” focused to critical issues on “Climate Change and Care for Creation”, “Income Inequity and Wasteful Consumption”, “War, Violence and Hate Speech”. Among this year’s the attendees and prominent speakers were nobel peace laureates, religious scholars and leaders, global thinkers and interfaith activists.

Pacifica Institute’s panel discussion focused on the The Gulen Movement and its contribution to peace. The panel was moderated by Professor Philip Clayton, Professor of Religion and Philosophy at Claremont Graduate School of Theology and Ozgur Koca, Assistant Professor of Muslim Studies at Bayan Claremont. Other panelists included Ibrahim Barlas, President and CEO of Pacifica Institute; Mustafa Derahovic, Regional Director of the Federation of Balkan American Associations in St. Louis; Muazzam Idris, PhD student at University of Southern California; Emmanuel Verona, Teacher at Filipino-Turkish Tolerance School; Abduljim Hadil, Teacher at Fountain International School Zamboanga/Philippines and Marina Pahl, Sociology Student at Pacific Lutheran University. Also on display was books on about the Hizmet Movement, Turkish hand crafted items and a presentation by a sunday school in Salt Lake City.

The Parliament of World’s Religions which first took place in 1893 in Chicago, is the oldest, the largest, and the most inclusive gathering of people of all faith and traditions. The event has been previously held in been held United States, South Africa, Spain and Australia.
