Muslims Urged to Combat Extremism and Promote Human Rights

August 27, 2015, Washington D.C. Turkish Islamic scholar Fethullah Gulen, published an op-ed on the Wall Street Journal urging muslims across the globe to denounce violence and oppression, promote human rights, support equal rights for men and women as well as provide educational opportunities for communities. In addition, he called for the international community to address and combat terrorism and for Muslims to become “beacons of peace and tranquility” in their societies.

Fethullah Gulen also shed light on the “carnage” caused by the Islamic State known as ISIS, in the Middle East including violent radicalism from terrorists “committing grave sins in the name of Islam”. He urged for communities to promote a holistic understanding of islam by focusing on the core principles and ethics of Islam.
