On December 5, 2012 TAA’s President Dr. Faruk Taban and TAA’s Program Director Murat Akkus attended an Azeri Parliament Day Celebration at Capitol Hyatt in Washington DC. Close to 50 people attended the event.
Among the distinguished guests were Louisiana Congressman Bill Cassidy, Montana Congressman Denny Rehberg, Ohio Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, Minnesota Senator Al Franken, Indiana Congressman Joe Donnelly, Indiana Congressman Dan Burton, Pennsylvania Congressman Mike Doyle, and New Jersey Congressman Leonard Lance. Local and federal officials as well as community, business and political leaders also attended.
In recent decades Azerbaijan has experienced a significant economic growth and had expanded its foreign investments and economic influence. Azeri Parliamentarians are currently working on improving U.S.-Azerbaijan cooperation in the areas of trade and energy and on promoting cultural exchange and interaction. The event is sponsored by two of TAA’s federations, the Turquoise Council of Americans and the Eurasians (TCAE) and the Council of Turkic American Associations (CTAA).
