July 14, 2015, Virginia. – The American Turkish Friendship Association (ATFA) launched its annual three day Ramadan Tent Iftar Series in Fairfax, Virginia on Tuesday, July 14th through Thursday, July 16th. Around 1000 people were in attendance, through these days to enjoy the festivities. TAA staff and interns also attended the event.

The Ramadan Tent was set up by the Oakton Library which invited the local communities around the area. Most guests arrived half an hour before Iftar, or fast-breaking, at sunset to take in the pleasurable weather and enjoy conversations with community members.

Attendees made new acquaintances and took part in meaningful dialogue with one another. Many guests had invited their friends, coworkers, and neighbors to enjoy the occasion and break fast together. One of the ATFA staff recited the Athan, the Islamic call to prayer, signaling that those fasting could break their fasts. The dinner included Turkish cuisine like rice, kofte (meatballs), and salad. For dessert, ATFA staff served Turkish baklava with walnuts.

After the fast breaking dinner, children and adults had the opportunity to enjoy the many activities and stands around the tent such as cotton candy, popcorn, ice cream, and, of course, Turkish Tea.
