January 12, 2016, Louisville, KY. The American Turkish Friendship Association (ATFA) hosted a breakfast to welcome Syrian refugees in Louisville. “Louisville is a welcoming community, we want to give the community an opportunity to connect with new Syrian families.” said Mehmet Demirel, Executive Director of the ATFA. Also among the distinguished guests were Congressman John Yarmuth and Greg Fischer, Mayor of Louisville. ATFA members were very excited to meet their new fellow Louisvillians, as well as state and city officials at their event. Earlier in December, The American Turkish Friendship Association (ATFA) and  its sister organizations hosted its 3rd Annual Blanket and Coat Drive Gala in Dinner in Virginia. The initiative was first launched in 2013 with the collaboration of counties of Northern Virginia, during which more than 45,000 blankets and $115,000 in donations were collected.
