On June 10th, 2014, the American Turkish Friendship Association (ATFA) hosted its annual reception at the Delaware Legislative Hall. Distinguished guests included Delaware Governor Jack Markell, state Representatives, state Senators and prominent community leaders.

The event kicked off with remarks by the Executive Director of the Mid-Atlantic Federation of Turkic American Associations (MAFTAA), Mahmut Yeter, who outlined AFTA’s vision of maintaining friendship and peace within the State of Delaware. Yeter later spoke before the General Assembly and highlighted the importance of the U.S. maintaining strong relations with Turkey and the Turkic countries. Over 50 guests attended the reception, enjoying delicious Turkish cuisines, warm conversations and traditional calligraphy art exhibitions.

ATFA is a cultural organization that fosters integrity through cultural and education activities and also assists communities to integrate well into the American society. It is also a member organization of MAFTAA. MAFTAA is one of six member federations under the Turkic American Alliance (TAA), an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization whose mission is to represent and work towards the social, political and economic empowerment of the Turkic American diaspora community. TAA also works towards facilitating strong ties among the United States, Turkey, the Central Asian republics and the Caucasus.
