ATFA Celebratres Ashura Night

October 23, 2015, Fairfax, VA. The American Turkish Friendship Association (ATFA) hosted Ashura Night, which is usually done on the 10th day of muharram on the lunar calendar. Guests of different faiths and cultures were in attendance.

Ashura, also known as Noah’s Pudding is a dessert prepared by cooking many different kind of fruits, nuts and wheat. Its rich ingredients consist of walnuts, hazelnuts, dried figs, pomegranate seeds, wheat grains, ground orange particle as well as beans. Ashura is considered a day of “respect and gratitude”as including a call for uniting, sharing, caring and understanding each other for a better life.

Ashura Nights was also celebrated by the Turkish Cultural Centers in New York as well as other interfaith dialogue organizations across the country.
