7th International Children’s Festival in California

October 3, 2015, San Jose, CA. Pacifica Institute organized its 7th International Children’s Festival at the Discovery Meadow Park in San Jose, California. This year’s flagship event had over 20 cultures represented with various groups and ethnicities performing folk dances, native songs, martial arts performances, homemade authentic dishes and desserts from around the world.

Sam Liccardo, Mayor of San Jose opened the festival and gave welcoming remarks followed by a speech by Ibrahim Barlas, President of Pacifica Institute. A special commendation was given by Congressman Michael M. Honda (CA), on behalf of the 17th Congressional District to Pacifica Institute for organizing the event this year and other previous years. The County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors and the City of San Jose also provided commendations in recognition of the flagship event.

There were performances from Silhouette Dance School, Shaolin Martial Arts Magique Bazaar, Udo Ka Mma Cultural Dance Group, Rana’s Academy of Dance. Ilhyun Kim Korean Dance Company, Niosha Dance Academy, Rossinca Cultural and Educational Center, Disha Performing Arts, Turkish Weekend School, One Myanmar Community Inc and many others.

The flagship event was organized to bring together children from different world cultures and communities in the Bay Area to celebrate culture through traditional dances, performances, arts and crafts, children’s activities and food.

Established in 2003, Pacifica Institute is a non-profit organization that encourages dialogue and engagement through monthly lectures, conferences and discussions that promote mutual understanding. It also hosts dinners, festivals and cultural trips throughout the year.
