Several members of Turkish Parliament, including Muslim Sari, Cahit Bagci, and Mehmet Gunal, visited the headquarters of the Turkic American Alliance (TAA) in Washington, DC on Friday, April 19.
Parliamentarians Mr. Sari of CHP (Republican People’s Party), Mr. Bagci of AKP (Justice and Development Party), and Mr. Gunal of MHP (Nationalist Movement Party), enjoyed breakfast at the office of TAA. These honored guests, who came to Washington, DC to attend World Bank/International Monetary Fund Spring Meetings 2013, and Dr. Faruk Taban, President of TAA, had a very productive discussion regarding current US-Turkey economic and cultural relations. Emre Celik, President of Rumi Forum, and Fevzi Bilgin, Executive Director of the Rethink Institute, also attended the event.
They also had a discussion on topics such as the educational system in Turkey, US-Turkey student exchange programs, and programs enhancing cultural representation of the US and Turkey. They also agreed that young professionals at the beginning of their career path should be offered a wide range of opportunities to develop their skills and abilities and generate more favorable conditions for their professional developments.
In addition to discussions on US-Turkey economic and cultural relations, Dr. Taban briefly described TAA’s mission and objectives to the guests. Members of Parliament were keenly interested in Annual 2013 Turkic American Convention that was attended by their Turkish colleagues and expressed their interest to attend the next year’s annual event.
