United Nations High Level Reception in New York

September 30, 2015, New York. A high-level was organized by the Journalists and Writers Foundation (JWF) for the participants of the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York.

Mogens Lykketoft, UN General Assembly President ; Assistant Secretary-Generals, Lakshmi Puri, Thomas Gass and Atefeh Riazi as well as 17 ministers, 10 members of parliament, and many civil society organization leaders from 60 countries were in attendance. Among the distinguished guests included, Mustafa Yeşil, JWF President; Wayne Swan, Former Austrian Prime Minister; George Caponda, Foreign Minister of Malawi; Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, State Minister of Ghana, Hüseyin Hurmalı, JWF Deputy President; Eloi Anguimate, Central African Republic Education Minister and many more.

Mr. Lykketoft delivered a speech, discussing the role of the United Nations in sustainable development and its broad agenda in establishing policies that “combat inequality within and among countries” as well as eliminating poverty. Honorable Swan, highlighted the value of civil society and the need for the resource support from the public and private sectors in order to achieve comprehensive social structure reform by 2030.

Honorable Caponda praised the activities of the Turkish schools and civil society organizations in his country, Malawi. “The Turkish schools are doing a very good job. Education is one of pillars of sustainable development for us. Boosting the quality of education for children will change the country’s dramatic future.” Honorable Pelpuo explained the value of civil society organizations in Ghana and their contributions to sustainable development.

Founded in 1994, The Journalists and Writers Foundation (JWF) organizes events that promote love, tolerance and dialogue. It has six platforms,focusing on topics such as intercultural dialogue, women, democracy, human rights, laicism, globalization and Islam.
