Turkish American Friendship Meeting at Ritz Carlton, Istanbul

On May 31, 2013, The Turkish Confederation of Businessmen, Industrialists (TUSKON) and The Turkic American Alliance (TAA) hosted the first Turkish-American Friendship Dinner in Istanbul. Over 400 guests including U.S. Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, Congresswoman Michelle Grisham, Congressman Leonard Lance, WI Secretary of State Doug LaFolette and Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan were in attendance. Many legislatures from 30 states had a chance to mingle with top business people present at the event.

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan emphasized the relations between friends and allies Turkey and the United States of America are in progress based on model partnership. Mr. Babacan said “We always put forward democracy, human rights and freedoms, the rule of law and market economy. We have a long common agenda on foreign policy. We have the same goals despite different methods to attain them. However we are in strong and continuous consultation. We are pleased with our international agendas moving closer to each other. Our common concept is global responsibility.” Mr. Babacan mentioned that the two countries aim to strategically develop the economic and commercial relations.

Mr. Babacan mentioned the Customs Union and The Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership. These negotiations aimed to develop a strong trade partnership. Babacan also announced that Turkey is considered as a country at “crossroads.” The number of embassies rose to 34 from 112 in four years.
