During this season of thanksgiving, three organizations—the Peace Islands Institute in Philadelphia, the Pinnacle Academy in Fairfax, Virginia, and the Turkish Cultural Center of Staten Island, generously served their local communities through food drives.
On November 1st, Peace Islands Institute (PII) jointly organized a food distribution program with State Representative J.P. Miranda, who represents Pennsylvania’s 197th Legislative District. In the West Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia, PII donated food packages to 30 families selected by Representative Miranda from his district.
Thanksgiving food drives are an annual event at Pinnacle Academy, a grade school with a special focus on mathematics and the sciences. The school immerses students in a multi-cultural learning environment that promotes critical thinking and problem solving. Donating over 840 food items that totaled 780 pounds to Food for Others, the largest food distributor in the Fairfax area, this year’s food drive marked their most successful one yet.
The Turkish Cultural Center of Staten Island (TCC) hosted a Thanksgiving luncheon at the Broad Street Salvation Army in Stapleton, NYC. TCC volunteers prepared and served over 100 meals.
