On Wednesday, July 9th 2014, Turkic American Alliance hosted its annual Signature Ramadan Dinner. Over 80 VIP guests attended this event, including a U.S. Senator, the Marlyland Secretary of State, Ambassadors, high-level State Department officials and other federal and state government officials, academics, and many others. Distinguished speakers included U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin and Maryland Secretary of State John P. McDonough.
Opening speeches were delivered by TAA President Dr. Faruk Taban, who also introduced U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin. Senator Baldwin discussed the importance of Ramadan and the importance of dialogue among family, friends and communities.
Secretary McDonough was then presented with the award of Outstanding Public Service, followed by brief remarks. Shortly after, dinner was served and fasts were broken. As the night came to a conclusion, Rumi Forum President Emre Celik delivered closing remarks, stressing the importance of dialogue between different cultures.
The Turkic American Alliance and Rumi Forum are very thankful for all of the guests who attended, as for the hard work of its staff and volunteers. Happy Ramadan 2014!
