On Monday, August 18th, Dr. Faruk Taban attended the Annual NCSL Legislative Summit held in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. Taban was invited as a panelist on the NCSL Task Force on Energy Supply which was attended by international parliamentarians, U.S. state legislators and legislative staff. During the session, Dr. Taban presented on the challenges, successes and potential of the energy in Turkey, Central Asia and the Caucasus.
The energy panel titled, “Energy: Perspectives from Across the Globe”, was a joint session with the Task Force on Energy and Supply and Taskforce on International Relations. The panelists included Representative Jeff Morris, Co-Chair of the NCSL Task Force on Energy Supply, Honorable Michael L. MacDonald, Senator in the Parliament of Canada, Honorable Li Bin, Counselor on the Economic Affairs Section from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the U.S. and Geoffrey Harris, Deputy Head of Office at the European Parliament Liaison Office with U.S. Congress. The Taskforce on Energy explores the issues and opportunities policymakers encounter when shaping energy policy.
Dr. Taban was selected to attend the International Program, organized by the Taskforce on International Relations that featured prominent leaders from 25 countries, regions, jurisdictions and organizations from across the globe. The international delegations with a very strong presence came from Canada, Germany, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda. The International Relations Task Force reviews NCSL activities with foreign governments to explore how legislatures can coordinate international activities and approaches.
