On April 4, President Obama visited Atherton, CA. In this Bay area trip, President Obama attended several functions including an event which took place at the houses of Mark Heising and Liz Simmons, who sits on the Board of the Bipartisan Policy Advocacy Network, and philanthropists Marcia and John Goldman.

In his remarks, President addressed several topics, ranging from education to rebuilding the US economy, gun legislation and immigration policies, and of course his second term life at the White House.

“I want to make sure that we’ve got the best education system in the world and that starts young,” he said. “We could be putting people back to work right now, and not only improving our current economic growth, but laying the foundation for economic growth for many years to come.”

Having in mind that he does not have another race to run, President Obama said that his thoughts are busy with the ways to leave a legacy for the great and strong American nation that will take care of children, create jobs for middle class people, as well as address innovative technology and environmental challenges such as climate change.

Kamala Harris, California Attorney General, and Mahmut Altun, Director of Pacifica Institute, Los-Angeles based member organization of the Turkic American Alliance, were also among invited guests. During the event, Mr. Altun had a chance to have a short conversation with President Obama, during which he presented to President an invitation letter to the 2013 Anatolian Culture and Food Festival in Southern California. The President received invitation and also thanked Mr. Altun for the great support of Turkic Americans during the last year’s presidential elections.

Mr. Altun also had a chance to talk with Rep. Mike Honda from San Jose, who recently attended 2013 Annual Turkic American Convention organized by Turkic American Alliance in Washington, DC on March 12-13. Later on Rep. Honda introduced Mr. Altun to other highly-ranked guests of the event.

“It was a great opportunity to see and invite President Obama to our Anatolian Culture and Food Festival that is widely considered the largest Turkish Festival and we had a nice talk with Rep. Honda,” Mr. Altun said.
