We, as the Turkic American Alliance (TAA) invited Turkey’s Minister of Development Mr. Cevdet Yilmaz to launch our Ministers Talk Series. Mr. Cevdet Yilmaz is a key politician and Member of Turkish Parliament for Bingol in Turkey. He has gained enough experience by being at several important positions in Turkey such as State Planning Organization and General Directorate of EU Relations. As we find an opportunity to introduce our organization to Mr. Yilmaz we also invited leaders of some of our component organizations to discuss about their work.Then by understanding our guests’ prior knowledge to dialogue we urged him to share his ideas and opinions with audience of TAA.
Minister Cevdet Yilmaz sincerely stated that building strong bridges with the United States of America is an important task and we as Turkish Americans must continue to inform our fellow American friends about Turkey. He also stated that inviting representatives from the House and Senate to tour Turkey and learn what Turkey and Turkish people are with first-hand experience is crucial to solidifying strong relations. Another point that was attended to was the importance on developing better economic ties with the US. He wants Turkey and the US to share more products and participate in trade, because both countries have a lot to offer each other.
At present, Turkey is a leading advocate of democracy in the region and thus Turkey strives to improve democracy inside the country as well as promoting it in the Middle East. Mr. Yilmaz stated that Turkey is moving in the right path to secure a democracy within the country, but also explains that we must continue to strive for betterment within our society and only then will our democratic system fight for equality at its highest level.
Mr. Cevdet Yilmaz also discussed future plans for Turkey that would lift Turkey to another level internationally. As he mentioned leaders of Turkey want to turn Turkey into one of the top 10 economies of the world in 2023 Mr. Yilmaz also stated that they have been able to raise GDP in Turkey steadily over the years. Along with improving Turkey’s economy Mr. Yilmaz also hit upon the modern infrastructure reform needed in the country. Much of the work being done today is to improve public transportation and other facilities to assist Turkey in proceeding to become a better country.
In general, Mr. Yilmaz finished his words by underlining that Turkey is becoming a country which determines not only its own policy but also to affect international politics rather than being determined by others.
