Erdem Basci, Governor of Turkish Central Bank, and Murat Cetinkaya, Deputy Governor of Turkish Central Bank, visited the headquarters of the Turkic American Alliance in Washington, DC on Sunday morning, April 22.
The Governor of Turkish Central Bank and his delegation arrived to Washington to attend joint World Bank and International Monetary Fund Spring Meetings 2013. Prior to this event, Mr. Basci attended a discussion on “Balanced Growth and Financial Stability in Turkey” as a guest speaker at the Paul H. Nitze SAIS at the John Hopkins University.
On Sunday morning, these leading monetary policy makers of Turkey enjoyed breakfast at the TAA office. Dr. Faruk Taban, President of TAA, described organization’s projects and activities, as well as its organizational structure to Mr. Basci, who has recently been named as Central Banker of the Year 2013 by The Banker, monthly international financial affairs magazine owned by the Financial Times, and his delegation including Mr. Cetinkaya.
Representatives of the Turkish Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialist lead by Hakan Tasci, Executive Director of TUSKON, also attended the breakfast meeting. Guests had a chance to introduce themselves and discuss respective mutual projects. They also discussed the current world economic situation, financial crises and its consequences, and potential perspectives of the economies of Central Asian and Balkan countries.
At the end of this informal meeting, Dr. Taban gave a small present of a copy of Capitol Hill landmarks, as a pleasant remembrance of the US and Capital Washington, DC, to Mr. Basci. Governor expressed his gratitude to the TAA for inviting and hosting him and wished to establish more productive and systematic relations with the organization.
