Early on Tuesday, September 17, U.S. Senator Chris Coons from Delaware was present for a breakfast meeting at the Turkic American Alliance. At the meeting, President Faruk Taban briefed attendees about the work of TAA, in addition to the work of one of its member organizations, Rumi Forum. Rumi Forum’s President Emre Çelik discussed the organization’s goals of facilitating interfaith and intercultural dialogue in order to stimulate thinking and exchanges of opinion on supporting and fostering democracy and peace all over the world, in addition to providing a common platform for education and information exchange.
Senator Coons was then introduced to a Turkish Delawarean restaurant owner and promised a visit next time he was in town. Sen. Coons also shared high school anecdotes of playing football with Dr. Mehmet Oz and how they remain good friends. A continental breakfast was then served, after which Fevzi Bilgin, Executive Director of the Rethink Institute, discussed the work and initiatives of his research institution.
Despite being a junior Senator, Chris Coons has already earned a reputation as a principled, pragmatic legislator eager to find bipartisan solutions to the issues confronting the nation and his constituent state of Delaware. Sen. Coons has emerged as a strong voice for innovation and job creation in the economy, responsible deficit reductions, progressive social justice, and forward-looking foreign policy. The Turkic American Alliance was honored to host the Senator and looks forward to working with him again in the future.
