Constitution Day of Kazakhstan Republic was celebrated at Kazakhstan Embassy with great enthusiasm where delicious food such as Kazakh pilav, manti and beshparmak were served. The event is also sponsored by TAA’s following component federations/councils, Turquoise Council of Americans and Eurasians (TCAE), Council of Turkic American Associations (CTAA), Turkish American Federation of Midwest (TAFM). Their presidents and some of their deputies were also present to celebrate this event.
At the opening speech, Ambassador Erlan Idrissov greeted all guests and spoke about the importance of this day in relatively new Republic’s history. Short PBS video shown featuring Kazakhistan. Kemal Oksuz, President of TCAE welcomed the guests and conveyed his condolonces on behalf of Turkic Americans about trajic incident in Benghazi.
There was a good turnout from the US Congress to support the event. Representatives Jeanne Schmidt (R-OH), Dan Burton (R-IN), Ed Royce (R-CA), Chris Murphy (D-CT), Yvette Clark (D-NY), Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Charlie Dent (R-PA) were in attendance.
