September 29, 2015, Orange County, CA. Pacifica Institute hosted a panel titled “The Role of the Prophet Abraham in Interfaith Dialogue.” The panel was mediated by Rabbi Frank Stern, author of A Rabbi Looks at Jesus’ Parables as well as a Professor from Orange Coast Community College.
Among the panelists was, Fr. Thomas Welbers, Pastor of Good Shepherd and Leader of Early Christian World Pilgrimage; Shaikh Suhail Mulla, Assistant Religious Director at the Islamic Society of Orange County and Rabbi Joel Berman, Rabbi at Temple Beth Emet in Anaheim.
Opening remarks were given by Atilla Kahveci, Vice President of Pacifica Institute, who discussed the need for dialogue in multicultural communities across the globe. Rabbi Berman elaborated on the similarities in Judaism and Islam, while Fr. Welbers expressed the bond between the major monotheistic religions.
