August 2-6, 2015,Seattle, WA. Turkic American Alliance (TAA) and a delegation, consisting of representatives from its six member federations, participated in the 2015 NCSL Summit in Seattle, Washington. The delegation, led by Dr. Faruk Taban, attended the President Elect Reception, hosted by Senator Curt Bramble and and other sessions organized for international participants. Dr. Taban introduced TAA and the efforts made by the Turkish community in the U.S. to legislators and prominent leaders from 22 countries across the globe — a strong presence coming from Canada, Kenya, South Africa, Brazil, Nigeria,Germany and Uganda.
During the summit, the delegation toured the Washington State Capitol Building in Olympia and learned about the legislative process in the U.S. and Washington State, as well as a mock-floor debate with legislative and parliamentary leaders. In addition, they participated in the Taste of Washington and experienced the various sights and popular food the state had to offer as well as a reception hosted by the Canadian Consulate at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel. The group also attended a series of discussions on topics such as infrastructure, trade, economic growth and social media.
