May 8th, Austin,TX, Raindrop Women’s Association (RAWA) hosted many distinguished women and men from all over Austin on May 8th, Friday for the last coffee night of the season.
RAWA gives ‘Mother of the Year” award each year to recognize exceptional women for successfully building their careers, nurturing their families and helping improve the lives of others while they overcome lots of obstacles in their personal lives.
This year’s Austin Ladies Coffee Night honored Sgt. Marci Graham by presenting “Mother of the Year” award. After losing her husband in January, Sgt. Graham has been a mother and a father to her three children. Her Chain of command , Lt Todd Smith, Commander Patrick South, Assistant Chief Troy Gay and Assistant Chief Jessica Robledo were also at the event with her.
RAWA president Filiz Camuz, explained her experiences while searching for candidates of the award. “ When I requested the police department to choose a name for the award, officers from the department carefully went through the candidates, wrote their stories, and voted on them.”
Austin Police Department Vice President Troy Gray said, “We were able to clearly see how many honorable female police officers we had, now we have to think of a way to honor them.”
RAWA was able to combine its award ceremony with its last coffe night of the season. Many bureaucrats and selected scholars and organizations were present at the event including the
Women Community Center of Central Texas (WomenCTX) organization and former Chief Operations Officer of Modest Needs Dr.Huriya Jabbar.
While receiving her award from RAWA president Filiz Camuz, Sgt. Marci Graham expressed her gratitude and stated that this has been the most meaningful award she has received.
