Rumi Forum Holds its Annual Eid Lunch Celebrations

On Monday, August 4th, Rumi Forum hosted an Eid Lunch to mark the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan which signifies the importance of friendship, dialog and community.

Among those in attendance was Former U.S. Ambassador David Newton, who served in at the U.S. Embassy in Yemen and Iraq.  Also present was Former U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Asif Chaudhry as well as distinguished guests from academia, government, think-tanks, media representatives and .

Ambassador David Newton and Ambassador Asif Chaudhry gave brief remarks and shared their thoughts on the value of sharing and celebrating as a community. This year alone, Rumi Forum organized over 45 iftar dinners as well as its first Suhoor program which received huge interest from the community at large. The event was held at Levante Restaurant in Washington D.C.  Suhoor is the pre-dawn meal consumed by Muslims during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The Rumi Forum was established in 1999 with the purpose of cultivating and stimulating knowledge exchange with the goal of fostering democracy and peace. As part of its activities, it holds Annual iftar programs, conferences and seminars that promote diversity and inclusion as well as peacebuilding and civic initiatives that promote social development. In addition, Rumi Forum hosts Ambassador Speaker Series, Abrahamic Discussions and Luncheon Series. Rumi Forum is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Federation of Turkic American Associations (MAFTAA), which is one of 6 federations under the Turkic American Alliance, located in Washington, D.C.
