On Saturday, October 12, 2013, the Turkic American Alliance and the heads of its component organizations met with the Honorable Ali Babacan, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic and Financial Affairs for the Republic of Turkey. TAA President Faruk Taban, Executive Director Mahmut Yeter of the Mid Atlantic Federation of Turkic American Associations (MAFTAA), Rumi Forum President Emre Çelik, TAA Program Director Murat Akkuş and a few other directors of TAA regional member organizations attended the dinner meeting. Deputy Prime Minister Babacan was briefed by TAA officials regarding its activities during 2013 and its upcoming 2014 activities.
Recently, Deputy PM Babacan welcomed a trip delegation organized by Rumi Forum in Ankara. During his visit to Washington, D.C., for the IMF-World Bank annual meetings during October 9-12, as well as for the G20 ministers meeting. discussed Turkey’s economy and foreign policy in his speech on October 11, which can be accessed here.
In addition to the IMF and World Bank meetings, Deputy PM Babacan delivered a speech at the John Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and at the Borsa İstanbul Forum. He also attended an event at the Brookings Institute entitled, “A New Agenda for African Development Finance in the 21st Century: A Conversation with African Development Bank President Donald Kaberuka.”
