Asian Pacific Institute for Congressional Studies, APAICS, held their annual Gala Awards Dinner on May 8. This event, where Vice President Joe Biden delivered a keynote speech in front of the nearly 1,000 Asian American and Pacific Islander national, state, and local community leaders, was attended by Dr. Faruk Taban, President of the Turkic American Alliance.
In his remarks, VP Biden praised great accomplishments of Senator Daniel K. Inouye, who died last December, thanked AAPI community for continuing Senator Inouye’s legacy of striving of possibility, equality, and justice for future generations, and described the growing importance of strengthening the American economy and growing the middle class.
During this event Dr. Faruk Taban together with the members of the US Congress such as Mike Honda, Judy Chu, Barbara Lee, Tammy Duckworth, some of which attended Annual 2013 Turkic American Convention earlier in March, had a chance for a friendly discussion during the Gala Awards Dinner.
APAICS is a national non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Asian Pacific American participation and representation at all levels of the political process, from community service to elected officials and the Annual Gala Awards Dinner is dedicated to honor Asian American and Pacific Islander leaders who have been playing a pioneering role in building new ties and making lasting changes in their communities.
