February 12, 2016, Salt Lake City, UT. Pacifica Institute organized a panel discussion to provide solutions to combating the cancer of extremism. The presentation was given by Dr. Daniel Hummel, Professor at Idaho State University, with Dr. Andrew Kosorok, Assistant Professor in the ISU Political Science Department providing introductory remarks.
The discussion included Muslims, Christians, Pagans, Humanists and representation from people of all faiths. In his speech, Kosorok mentioned Gulen’s message and view on peace-building and also stated key points from the article “Muslims Must Combat the Extremist Cancer”, published on August 27, 2015 in the Wall Street Journal — which provided potential solutions and changes in behavior that would assist in prevent the rise of extremism. Dr. Hummel also gave the audience useful statistics on the various attacks that have been made on the media by extremists, including how they are portrayed, Participants also had an opportunity to share their personal experiences on the issue as well as individual projects.
