January 14, 2016, Irvine, CA. Pacifica Institute’s Orange County branch hosted a panel session of the “Around the Fountain” discussion series, consisting of prominent local religious leaders in the community.
This month’s article focused on an article titled, “Muslims Must Combat the Extremist Cancer” that was recently published in the Wall Street Journal on August 27, 2015. The article urges Muslims across the globe to denounce violence and oppression, promote human rights, support equal rights for men and women as well as provide educational opportunities for all diverse communities.
The attendees also had an opportunity to share their opinions on the article and find solutions on promoting a holistic understanding of Islam. The wide range of topics such as combating Islamophobia, sources of modern-day extremism, and possible solutions to stop misrepresenting the Islam, were discussed during the panel session.
