A breathtaking closing ceremony at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium wrapped up the 11th International Turkish Olympıad ın Istanbul on June 16.
Olympic stadium that normally has a capacity of 80,000 people was equipped with additional seats for 50,000 more people and nearly 120,000 people watched the ceremony on giant screens set outside the stadium. Thus, more than 250,000 people attended the event. Students from 140 countries participated in this 16-day Olympiad, which is the first of its kind. International students fascinated local audiences with nearly 100 stages in more than 50 cities across Turkey.

Students coming from all over the world participate in the 11th International Turkish Language Olympiad, which brings together hundreds of foreign students each year from Turkish schools established. This event aims to build strong ties and lasting friendship and in turn raising hopes for world peace. The First Turkish Olympiad were launched in 2003 with the participation of 62 students from 17 countries. This year Turkish Olympiad brought together 2,000 students from 140 countries. Today, there are more than 1,100 Turkish educational institutions in 152 countries. There are around 20,000 teachers and 500,000 students in those educational institutions.

What started out as peaceful protests around legitimate environmental concerns in Istanbul Taksim square last week turned into nationwide clashes between the police and the protesters in Turkey. We Turkic Americans unequivocally reject the use of disproportionate force, which made some of the protestors become more susceptible to provocations by extremist groups and turn violent. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of a protestor and a police officer who lost their lives. We wish for the speedy recovery to those who have been injured during the protests.

On May 31, 2013, The Turkish Confederation of Businessmen, Industrialists (TUSKON) and The Turkic American Alliance (TAA) hosted the first Turkish-American Friendship Dinner in Istanbul. Over 400 guests including U.S. Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, Congresswoman Michelle Grisham, Congressman Leonard Lance, WI Secretary of State Doug LaFolette and Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan were in attendance. Many legislatures from 30 states had a chance to mingle with top business people present at the event.

The Turkic American Alliance (TAA) and its member Federations hosted 200+ US officials from 30 states in Istanbul and some other cities.
Turkish Investment Support & Promotion Agency, Zaman Newspaper, the U.S. Consulate-General, Kimse Yokmu Foundation, Media Foundation were among the places visited for meetings as well as major historical and touristic sites such as Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern and Grand Bazaar. Most groups took a Bosphorous Tour also. For some lucky delegations, private family houses were arranged for more in depth cultural adventure during traditional Turkish dinner.

On May 28- 29, 2013, Baku hosted the “Azerbaijan-US: Vision for Future” convention. The distingueed attandees were State and Government Officials, Azerbaijani parliamentarians, US congressmen, the two countries` ministers, experts and journalists. Baku doesn’t often see many high level US Officials altogether at once. Over 30 individual delegations from all corners of US including government officials, media members, and NGO representatives witnessed Baku’s very modern views. They visited the Heyder Aliyev Convention Center, 162-metre giant flagpole, Azerbaijani Parliament, Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy, Qala Archaelogical Park, Gala Bazar Restaurant, and Atashgah Temple Complex.

Turkey’s President Abdulah Gul warm welcomed the delegation of the Turkic American Alliance (TAA) members with US Representatives Ruben Hinejosa of Texas, Yvette Clarke of New York, Michelle Grisham of New Mexico and Leonard Lance of New Jersey at the Cankaya Presidential Palace on May 27th 2013.
Abdullah Gul empased on the importance of the relations between Turkey and the United States in order to solve the current issues upraising in the Middle East especially in Syria. During the meeting, Healthcare system in both countries and National Security issues in the region were also discussed.

The Anatolian Cultures and Food Festival in Los Angeles returns to the Orange County fairgrounds with food, music, crafts and startlingly real re-creations of the wonders of Turkey.
The four-day Anatolian Cultures and Food Festival, the largest Turkish festival in the world, is introducing Americans to Turkey and Anatolian civilizations while promoting Turkey's diverse cultural communities. About 60,000 visitors came to the festival, including locals, historians, researchers and members of Anatolian peoples who reside in the area.

Fifth Washington DC finals of International Language and Cultural Festival took place at Woodson High School in Fairfax, Virginia on May 12. Just like in the previous years the event was organized by American Turkish Friendship Association (ATFA) and Mid-Atlantic Federation of Turkic American Associations (MAFTAA), Turkic American Alliance’s member federation.
Festival attracted nearly 2000 people from different states such as North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland. Asian Pacific Institute for Congressional Studies, APAICS, held their annual Gala Awards Dinner on May 8. This event, where Vice President Joe Biden delivered a keynote speech in front of the nearly 1,000 Asian American and Pacific Islander national, state, and local community leaders, was attended by Dr. Faruk Taban, President of the Turkic American Alliance.

Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the US celebrated the Commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the Congress of Leaders of the World and Traditional Religions at the US Capitol Visitor Center. The Anatolian Cultures and Food Festival is a cultural and historical event that includes exhibitions, food, art craft, performances, dances and live music activities. More than 40,000 people from United States and around the world attend the four-day event each year.
The 1st Anatolian Cultures and Food Festival were held in OC Fairgrounds and the 2nd one at OC Great Park. This year, the festival comes back at the OC Fairgrounds on May 16th through 19th.

Rumi Forum hosted Egemen Bagis, Turkey’s Minister for European Union Affairs and Chief Negotiator, along with his delegation on April 26.
Mr. Bagis was in Washington, DC to discuss free trade negotiations between the US and the EU and to attend several other programs put together by Turkish organizations in the US.
Rumi Forum, an NGO promoting interfaith and intercultural dialogue and fostering democracy and peace, was kindly honored to host the Chief Negotiator for European Union Affairs. Haluk Ipek, Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) of Turkey, who was visiting Washington, DC on an official trip from Ankara, visited the headquarters of Turkic American Alliance on Friday, April 27.
Mr. Ipek with the Commission on Rules of Procedure from the Grand National Assembly of Turkey was on the official visit in Washington, DC to research and study Parliamentarian procedures and applications.
