    On December 4th , 2014, the Niagara Foundation celebrated its 10th Year Anniversary at the Hilton Grand Ballroom in downtown Chicago. This year’s dinner coincided Niagara’s annual Peace and Dialogue Awards under the theme of Peace, Friendship and Conviction. Over 750 people attended the gala, including public officials, community activists and religious leaders.     On December 4th, 2014 the American Turkish Friendship Association (ATFA) collaborated to host a gala dinner to benefit Syrian refugees. A total of $98,000 was raised and 25,000 blankets were collected from across Northern Virginia this year. Organizations that took part in organizing the dinner, included Mid Atlantic Federation of Turkic Americans (MAFTAA); The Rumi Forum; Kimse Yok Mu, an aid organization based in Turkey and Embrace Relief, a relief aid organization founded by Turkish Americans.     On November 22nd, 2014, The Mid-Atlantic Federation of Turkic Americans (MAFTAA) partnered with local government leaders and elected officials from major municipalities in Northern Virginia, international aid organizations, private sector firms, NGOs and religious communities to organize the Syrian Refugees Blanket Drive. The event brought together over 300 volunteers from the Mid-Atlantic region. The Syrian Refugees Blanket Drive is a region-wide initiative aimed at helping refugees fleeing from Syria as a result of the violence and conflict back home.
